Ruben Amorim accused his Manchester United side of being “too comfortable” after they let victory slip away in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Tottenham.
United led for much of the game thanks to Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half strike but were pegged back late on as Mathys Tel and Richarlison turned the match around before Matthijs de Ligt’s 96th-minute header rescued a point.
Despite extending their unbeaten run to five matches, Amorim was unimpressed with his team’s attitude.
“We were comfortable in the game, but I think we should do better — be more aggressive,” he said. “The three points were there for us. We need to expect that one play can change everything, and today it did. We felt too comfortable.”
The manager also expressed concern over a possible knee injury to substitute Benjamin Šeško, saying: “We think he has a problem but let’s see.”
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank defended his substitutions after fans booed when he replaced Xavi Simons with Tel — a change that proved decisive as Tel equalised minutes later. Wilson Odobert and Destiny Udogie also made key contributions from the bench.
“Sometimes you’re lucky,” Frank said. “But every decision I make is to try to win the game — and Tel did very well.”
Spurs are still searching for their first home league win since August, but Frank said he was “very happy” with the performance against a “good Manchester United team that’s definitely in flow.”
