Celtic are moving quickly to appoint Wilfried Nancy as their new manager, with discussions set to accelerate over the weekend. The Columbus Crew boss has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Brendan Rodgers, whose second spell in charge ended acrimoniously in late October.
The Scottish champions have informed the MLS club of their intentions, and any compensation is not expected to pose an issue. Nancy is said to be keen on the move, with Celtic aiming to have him in place before next weekend’s trip to St Mirren, which would conclude Martin O’Neill’s stint as caretaker.
Nancy, previously with Montreal, guided Columbus to seventh in the Eastern Conference this season before losing to FC Cincinnati in the MLS playoffs. His progressive coaching style and willingness to work within Celtic’s transfer model have made him the preferred candidate of Paul Tisdale, the club’s head of football operations.
Other names linked, including Kieran McKenna, Robbie Keane, and Kjetil Knutsen, have since dropped down the shortlist, with McKenna’s high compensation and salary proving prohibitive.
