Police confirmed a 14-year-old boy admitted igniting several wildfires in Portugal.
He rode his scooter to forests and used matches to start fires.
Investigators linked him to blazes in Seidões, Ardegão, and Arnozela.
Officers Probe Motive and Wider Links
Police said the boy acted out of frustration with poor school results and social struggles.
They have not ruled out the possibility of him acting with others.
Authorities launched the investigation after fires repeatedly broke out in the same parishes.
Judicial System Takes Over Case
Braga police concluded their inquiry and passed the case to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Officials will now transfer the case to the Family and Children’s Court.
By 20 August, police had already detained 52 people suspected of arson across Portugal.
Vinhais Blaze Remains Active
Emergency services reported 97 fires on Friday morning, most under control or nearly extinguished.
The fire in Vinhais still threatens, with more than 400 firefighters and six planes deployed.
Crews control two fronts, but one remains difficult to access.
Weather Conditions Aid Firefighters
Falling temperatures between 14 and 32 degrees Celsius have helped control operations.
Cloudy skies also slowed fire spread, easing pressure on exhausted crews.
Despite this, IPMA placed the south and interior on maximum wildfire risk alert.
