De Niro Voices Alarm Over Trump
Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro spoke out forcefully against Donald Trump ahead of the State of the Union, warning that the president “will never leave” office without action from voters. On MS NOW, De Niro said Americans must step in: “We have to make him leave. He jokes now about nationalizing the elections. He’s not joking. We’ve seen enough already.”
The actor also attended a counter-event called “State of the Swamp” at the National Press Club, sponsored by Defiance.org, where he criticized what he described as a government run by “dishonest and greedy and cruel authoritarians” and said he felt “betrayed by my country.”
Trump Fires Back on Social Media
Trump responded on his Truth Social platform, calling for several critics to be deported, including Democratic Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, both American citizens who heckled him during the address, as well as De Niro.
In his post, Trump labeled De Niro “deranged” and accused him of saying things that were “seriously CRIMINAL,” comparing the actor unfavorably to Rosie O’Donnell, whom he previously threatened with citizenship revocation despite a Supreme Court ruling barring such actions.
Public Opinion and Political Concerns
The controversy comes amid polling that shows concern about Trump’s behavior and the age of US leaders. A Reuters/Ipsos poll found 61 percent of Americans believe Trump has become erratic with age, and 79 percent feel elected officials in Washington are too old to represent most Americans.
Another survey by Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos found only 39 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s job performance. White House spokesman Davis Ingle dismissed the polls as “fake and desperate narratives,” but the clash with one of Trump’s most vocal celebrity critics underscores the heated and polarized political climate in the United States.
