Luxembourg to Serve as Launch Site for Initial Trials
Chinese autonomous mobility company Pony.ai has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Stellantis to build and test electric vans equipped with advanced Level 4 automation for the European market. The collaboration will begin with pilot operations in Luxembourg, followed by a phased expansion planned to start in 2026. The partnership combines Pony.ai’s autonomous driving technologies with Stellantis’ experience in vehicle production and electric design.
Partnership to Focus on Next-Generation Commercial Vehicles
Under the deal, Pony.ai’s sensor suite, perception algorithms, and control systems will be integrated into Stellantis’ line of light commercial vehicles produced under the Peugeot, Citroën, and Opel brands. These vans are expected to support both passenger transport and logistics services in cities adopting automated mobility solutions. The first trials will include safety operators inside the vehicles while the technology undergoes testing and regulatory inspection across Europe.
Strategic Expansion for Pony.ai’s Global Operations
The agreement represents a key milestone in Pony.ai’s international growth, adding a European presence to its existing autonomous driving networks in China and the United States. Stellantis considers the initiative an important step toward incorporating autonomous systems into its electric vehicle portfolio. Both companies stated that data security, compliance with European safety frameworks, and certification processes will guide development before any commercial rollout takes place.
